The Sunshine Coast is located on the mainland corner of South Western British Columbia, Canada.  The region is surrounded on three sides by water:  Jervis Inlet, Georgia Strait, and Howe Sound. The fourth side is made up of coastal mountains that are too rugged for roads so the water has always been the main highway to access the region.

The Sunshine Coast's 86 km of coastline is home to a variety of small tight-knit communities extending from Port Mellon to Egmont.  The largest population centers are located in Sechelt and Gibsons, and although the Sunshine Coast is part of the BC mainland, it is only accessible by sea or by air.

Below you will find stories of some of the communities on the Sunshine Coast:

  • GIBSONS  Also Hopkins Landing, Grantham's Landing, and Port Mellon.
  • SECHELT  Also Wilson Creek, Davis Bay, Selma Park, Porpoise Bay, Tuwanek, Sandy Hook, and West Sechelt.
  • HALFMOON BAY  Also Sargeant Bay, Smuggler Cove and Redrooffs.
  • PENDER HARBOUR: Madeira Park, Garden Bay, Irvine's Landing, Kleindale

Though not a part of the SCMA's collecting area, the history of Bowen Island can be found here.
