Our 13th annual Antique Roadshow was a great success as people flocked to Sunnycrest Mall on Saturday March 15th with their unique and heirloom items to be appraised. All proceeds from the event will be used for future Museum programming and operations. Some of the noteworthy items that were appraised include:
  • Emily Carr charcoal portrait.  This was of a family member  and the portrait has been in their family since it was done c. 1920.  Value $20,000 plus
  • Another very exciting item was a cloisonné bowl, unsigned but roughly dated to 1890 – 1920 with a value of $1500 to $40,000 if proven provenance
  • Portrait dated 1858 done by one of Queen Victoria’s portrait painters
  • 2 Chinese screens made of gemstones
  • American Artist Jerome Smith painting “Horses” c. 1930s   Est. Value $4000
  • 1820 School Atlas (poor condition) $100
  • 18th Century Cast Georgian Candlesticks  Est. Value $6000
  • Irish broach in 15k gold with emeralds and diamonds that belonged to current owner’s great aunt.  The great aunt had been given the broach by her fiancé but she was jilted at the alter.  She kept the broach.  1902  Est. value $3000
Many thanks to the appraisers for volunteering their time and to the Museum volunteers and organizers who made this event a success! We also wish to thank Telus for their financial support of the 2014 Antique Roadshow.
Start searching your attics and antique stores for those rare and priceless items - we'll see you at the 2015 Antique Roadshow!
